What Are Drop Groups?

Drop groups are a way the server organizes certain monster drops. Instead of every possible item having its own independent chance to drop, some items are grouped together. When you kill a monster, the server will only allow one item from that group to drop per kill—even if the group contains several items.

How Do Drop Groups Work?

  • One Drop Per Group: If a monster has a drop group, only one item from that group can drop each time you kill it.

For example, if a monster’s drop group contains a Healing Potion, a Scroll, and a Crystal, you will get at most one of these per kill (or sometimes none, if you’re unlucky).

  • Random Selection: The server randomly decides which item from the group (if any) will drop, based on each item’s chance.
  • Not All Drops Are Grouped: Many common drops (like adena or basic materials) are not in groups and can drop together. Drop groups are usually used for special or rare items.

Why Use Drop Groups?

  • Prevents Too Many Rare Drops: Drop groups make sure you don’t get multiple rare items from a single monster kill.
  • Adds Variety: You might get a different item from the group each time you kill the same monster, making farming more interesting.

What Does This Mean for Players?

  • You Can’t Get Everything at Once: If you’re farming a monster for a specific rare item, you might get other items from the same group instead. You’ll need to keep trying until you get the one you want.
  • Drop Rates Still Apply: Each item in the group has its own chance, but only one can drop per kill from that group.
  • Other Drops Still Possible: You can still get other non-grouped drops (like adena or quest items) at the same time.

Example

Let’s say a monster has a drop group with:

  • Healing Potion (30% chance)
  • Scroll of Escape (10% chance)
  • Crystal (5% chance)

When you kill the monster:

  • The server checks the group and rolls for each item.
  • If more than one item “wins” the roll, only one will actually drop (usually the rarest or by random selection).
  • Sometimes, nothing from the group drops at all.

In Summary

  • Drop groups mean only one item from the group can drop per kill.
  • They are used to control the flow of rare or special items.
  • You’ll need to farm multiple times to get all possible group drops.
